Forest Schools First Aid Course Overview

This course is ideal for the Forest Schools Practitioners, as it meets all the IOL Band 3 requirements to teach children in the outdoor Forest Schools environment and is FSA Compliant. However this course is not just relevant to Forest Schools and would also be ideal for anyone else take children outdoors.

The course also meets all of the requirements for our Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) + 12 Hours course, which is Ofsted/EYFS Compliant. So for an extra £18 per person we can offer both qualifications at the same time.

Institute for Outdoor Learning Recognition

This qualification meets all the requirements for Institute for Outdoor Learning Band 3 and is Forest School Association compliant, meeting all the needs of the Level 3 Forest School Practitioner.

Forest Schools First Aid Course Content

Meets the requirements for Forest Schools including Adult/Child:
  • Management of Unconscious Casualty
  • Vital Signs
  • Safe Airway Positions
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • Shock & Bleeding
  • Fractures & Dislocations
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Head, Neck, Spinal & Chest Injuries
  • Medical Conditions including: Asthma, Anaphylaxis, Diabetes, Heart Attack, Seizures & Hypo/Hyperthermia
  • Minor Injuries including: Cuts, Grazes, Splinters, Bites/Stings, Eye Injuries, Ticks etc…
  • Outdoor Scenarios
If doing the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid qualification, we also cover Infant age group (0-12 months).
  • Injuries to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries;
  • Chest injuries;
  • Burns and scalds;
  • Eye injuries;
  • Sudden poisoning;
  • Anaphylactic shock;
  • Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid (including heart attack, stroke, epilepsy, asthma, diabetes).

Forest Schools First Aid Course Assessment

Learning is proven via the following assessment method:

  • Ongoing practical assessment by the course trainer/s throughout the duration of the course in a low stress environment. Please note some of our time will be spent outdoors (regardless of weather conditions).

Forest Schools First Aid Course Duration

Normally (2 long days on the two dates shown) but can be broken down into smaller sessions, with a minimum of 16 hours contact teaching hours (not including lunch and breaks).

First Aid At Work Course Package

  • Minimum of 1 trainer per 12 attendees.
  • Interactive hands on practical training.
  • One AED training unit per 2 attendees.
  • One CPR training manikin (Adult) per attendee.
  • Easy to follow individual course manual.
  • A recognised qualification certificate with 3 years license to practice.

Forest Schools First Aid Certification / Revalidation

On successful completion of the course, attendees will be issued with the ITC Level 3 Award in Forest Schools First Aid certificate valid for 3 years. Revalidation is required every 3 years by re-attendance and successful completion on another course.

Cost

On-site courses can be held at your own venue, starting from £850 + VAT for up to and including 12 attendees- please contact us for further details.

Individual places on our open courses held in the South West region start from as little as £115 + VAT per attendee.

Please note: For on-site courses, we will need an outdoor space for the practical scenarios.

Please note: If you wish to also gain the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) + 12 hour qualification, this will require a £18 extra certification fee per person.
